Tool axis adjustment for 5-axis roughing operations

نویسندگان

چکیده

The increased accessibility of the tool achieved by using 5-axis roughing reduces overall machining time complex parts reducing or eliminating re-roughing and semi-finishing operations thereby decreasing volume remaining material before finishing operations. However, milling generates significant variations in orientation which, combined with high engagement required conditions, can be penalizing. Controlling these is therefore mandatory to guarantee life, productivity quality operation. Thus, a multi-objective optimization proposed define successive orientations axis along path that minimize feedrate slowdowns thus time, balance pushing pulling configurations respect programmed scallops heights machined surface. In this work, defined two curves, one constraining position other its allowing for parametric synchronization conduct optimization. From definition weights each minimization objective functions, it possible find solution satisfies given constraints all path. application on test part simulation highlights effectiveness approach advantages controlling evolution roughing.

Precise gouging-free tool orientations for 5-axis CNC machining

We present a precise approach to the generation of optimized collision-free and gouging-free tool paths for 5-axis CNC machining of freeform NURBS surfaces using flat-end and rounded-end (bull nose) tools having cylindrical shank. To achieve high approximation quality, we employ analysis of hyper-osculating circles (HOC) [26, 27], that have third order contact with the target surface, and lead ...

Tractrix-based tool orientation control for 5-axis CNC machining

We consider a 5-axis CNC machine whose tool axis maintains a fixed angle with respect to the surface normal as the machine tool cuts a given path on a smooth surface. The tool axis a(ξ) lies on a cone of constant angle ψ about the surface normal n(ξ) at each point of the path, but its azimuthal position on this cone remains indeterminate. Geometrically speaking, given a curve n(ξ) on the unit s...

Kinematic Modeling of the Tricept Based 5-axis Machine Tool

Abstract: This paper is aimed in presenting a study on the kinematic modeling of the Tricept based five-axis vertical machine tool. Since the machine comprises 3-DOF parallel structure and 2-DOF serial wrist kinematic modeling also comprises serial and parallel part. As solution of direct and inverse kinematics of 2-DOF serial wrist is well known the study in this paper will focus on the parall...

Accessibility in 5 - Axis

18 propellers is investigated, using the cusp (scallop) height as the objective function. This technique allow one to end mill a surface, while the tool is not necessarily oriented along the surface normal, stressing the need for better techniques to solve the accessibility problem in 5-axis modes.
